How To Do

PREPARE FOR THE PROJECT

A. Lightly sprinkle the enclosed white packet of cleaner over a damp scrub pad and scrub the entire surface to remove all mold, mildew, dirt, dust, grease and soap scum. Thoroughly rinse the entire surface, making sure all residue is gone.
B. Soap scum is often not visable to the eye. To ensure all soap scum has been removed, run hand along surfacce of the tile. If a rough, dull, or tacky surface exists, additional cleaning is neccessary. Repeat cleaning until the tile feels clean and has a smooth finish.
C. Remove all caulk around tub surrounds, counters, ledges, mirrors, showerheads, etc. Plug the drain so no caulk residue falls in, and remove all caulk from surface.
D. Inspect the grout between the tiles for any cracks, chips or holes. Damaged grout will be more apparent after the application of the Textured Bond Coat. Repair grout first by regrouting severely damaged areas or filling in with a 2-part epoxy putty before moving on to the next step.
E. Once cleaned, repaired, and dried, remove any movable fixtures. Use 2" painter's tape to mask off the edges of the tile that meets the wall and other immovable fixtures.

IMPORTANT: If the lighting is dim, bring in extra light source.

STEP #1: APPLY THE TEXTURED BOND COAT

A. Cover tub or shower areas with drop cloths. Wearing disposable gloves and safety glasses, pour Textured Bond Coat Part A Activator into the Textured Bond Coat Part B Base. Mix thoroughly for 2 minutes. Pour one-fourth of the mixture into a tray and cover remaining paint. Work in manageable sections when rolling the Textured Bond Coat. Working with a partner, have the first person apply the Textured Bond Coat using a 2” synthetic brush to the outside edges including corners.

B. With the other partner following behind, roll the Textured Bond Coat onto the entire vertical surface using the included 1/4" nap roller cover with thinner roller with shorter nap. Apply the coating using long strokes, working quickly, but not over-rolling as the coating will begin to dry. Apply the Textured Bond Coat row by row, working vertically and then horizontally. Cover all surfaces and grout lines thoroughly.

C. Once you have coated the entire tile area, inspect the finish for any drips, imperfections, or uneven texture, but most importantly any missed grout. If there are areas of missed grout, use a foam brush to dab in. Remove all tape
from the tile edges roughly 4 hours after application.

IMPORTANT: Contents of the solvent based Tile Textured Bond Coat are flammable until dry. Extinguish all flames and pilot lights, and turn off stoves, heaters, electric motors and other sources of ignition during use until project is complete. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Do not smoke.

IMPORTANT: For the Textured Bond Coat, it is important to apply with the included 1/4” nap roller. The 1/4" nap roller is the thinner roller cover with the shorter/more compact nap.

DRY TIME: Allow the Textured Bond Coat to dry for 8 hours or overnight before applying the Natural Stone Finish.

STEP #2: APPLY THE NATURAL STONE FINISH

A. Using the 2” painter’s tape, mask off the tile surface the same as you did when preparing to apply the Textured Bond Coat. Prep the new roller by running hand along roller to remove loose fibers. Cover tub or shower areas with drop cloths.
B. Wearing disposable gloves and safety glasses, pour Natural Stone Finish Part A Activator into the Natural Stone Finish Part B Base. Mix thoroughly for 2 minutes. Pour about one-fourth of the mixture into a tray and cover remaining product.  Apply the Natural Stone Finish working in 1- 1 1/2 foot sections from top to bottom, keeping a wet edge. As with the Textured Bond Coat, work with a partner, having the first person lightly apply the Natural Stone Finish using a 2” synthetic paint brush to the outside edges, 90 degree angles, etc. With the other partner following behind, apply the Natural Stone Finish to the entire vertical tile surface using the included 3/8" nap roller (thicker roller with longer nap). Be sure to roll over the corners and edges that were applied by the first partner.
C. Do not over-saturate the roller; roll excess product off in paint tray before coating. When applying, roll the beaded finish from top to bottom, going back, to back-roll horizontally. If you encounter too much beaded surface in certain areas, use the roller to spread out. Long vertical, horizontal and diagonal strokes will help spread the Natural Stone Finish evenly across the tile. Only coat the surface with one coat and do not over-roll as the finish will begin to dry quickly.

IMPORTANT: For the Natural Stone Finish, it is important to apply with the included (3/8” nap) roller. The 3/8" nap roller is the thicker roller cover with a longer/fuzzier nap.

DRY TIME: Allow the Natural Stone Finish to dry overnight. Shower or tub wall tile areas will be ready for full use 24 hours after Natural Stone Finish application. Before full use, re-caulk all areas including tub surrounds, counters, ledges, mirrors, showerheads, etc. Follow manufacturer’s instructions and allow for proper dry time before using tub area.
