Q. Is Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations™ Safe to Use?

A. Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations™ is safe to use and low-odor. Follow supplied instructions for wearing mask, gloves or safety glasses as indicated. Use care, just as you would when using any other refinishing product.

Q. What is a Home Shield™?

A. HomeShield™ products contain additives that inhibit the growth of mold & mildew on the coated surface. To obtain the Home Shield Performance mark, products are subjected to rigorous independent testing which exceeds most industry and consumer testing standards.

Q. Can I Use Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations™ Over an Existing Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations™ Coating?

A. Yes, you can apply a new Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations™ coating over an existing Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations™ surface. The existing coating will need to be sanded thoroughly with the Diamond Embedded Sanding Tool. Follow normal application process.

Q. Prior to Using Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations™, How Do I Repair Cracks, Cuts, Chips, Scratches or Burns In My Original Countertop?

A. Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations™ will coat and cover any burns and small scratches in the existing countertop. Cracks, chips, deeper cuts or dents can be repaired by filling them with a 2-part epoxy putty. When the putty dries, sand the area until it is even with the surrounding surface. Once repairs have been made, follow the normal application process.

Q. Besides Laminate, What Other Surfaces Can Be Refinished with Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations™?

A. With proper surface preparation, the Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations™ coating system also adheres to hardwood and metal trim. All countertop materials should be sanded thoroughly with the Diamond Embedded Sanding Tool and tested for good Adhesive Base Coat adhesion before coating the entire surface area.

Q. What if the chips did not adhere to the base coat or were accidentally removed during appllication?

 A. Easy fix! Just use a damp sponge dipped into the Adhesive Base Coat and lightly sponge on the area. Immediately apply additional Decorative Chips. After 4 hours, the repaired area can be sanded to match the surrounding countertop. Apply the Protective Top Coat per instructions.

Q. What If My Original Countertop Laminate Is Delaminating?

A. The original countertop needs to be in good structural condition before refinishing. If there is delamination, properly reattach the laminate. If existing laminate is blistering, bubbling or buckling, do NOT use Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations™.

Q. How Do I Refinish Around Sinks, Stoves, and Other Appliances?

A. Mask the sink and adjacent areas using smooth painters tape. Be thorough about pressing in the edge to ensure none of the coating will bleed through. Make sure you cover the sink drain to keep Decorative Chips from falling in. If you are planning on replacing your sink in the near future, now is an ideal time.

Q. Please define “light” use versus “normal” use?

A. The Protective Top Coat needs to cure for 48 hours before “light use”. After 48 hours:
• Light weight items under 5 pounds
• Light food preparation
• Wipe down surface sponge and water
• Avoid cleaners or chemicals
• Avoid water pooling
• Avoid using a toaster or crockpot
The countertops need to cure for 7 days before resuming normal use. Never use harsh chemicals or super-abrasives to clean your countertops. Wait 48 hours before caulking

Q. What Can I Do To Keep The Adhesive Base Coat Wet Longer?

A. To keep the Adhesive Base Coat wet prior to applying the Decorative Chips, keep windows closed and ceiling fans off. Avoid air movement or breezes while applying Adhesive Base Coat. This may cause it to dry faster. In addition, the Wetting Agent allows the surface to stay wet longer allowing the chips to better adhere to the Adhesive Base Coat.

Q. How Does Humidity and Temperature Affect the Coating Application Process?

A. Higher humidity will cause the Adhesive Base Coat to dry more slowly. This helps increase the time window for applying and adhering the Decorative Chips onto the wet Adhesive Base Coat. Ideal conditions are 50% relative humidity and temperature at or around 70 degrees F. Do NOT apply the Adhesive Base Coat at relative humidity levels below 30% or above 70% and when the dew point is under 5 degrees F.

TIP: If humidity is low, use a humidifier to increase moisture levels in the room.

Q. How Do I Safely Maintain My New Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations™ Surfaces?

A. Caring for your resurfaced countertops is easy. To clean the surface, use a damp cloth or sponge and a mild soap or detergent. The easiest way to avoid stains is to not let spills sit on the surface. All countertop surfaces should be wiped clean regularly. For dark scuff marks or crayon, try Mr.Clean® MagicEraser®.

Trivets and potholders will protect against heat damage, and using cutting boards for food prep will eliminate any chance of scratching.

Q. How long will Countertop Transformations™ last?

A. With normal use and proper care, your refinished surfaces will last for years.

Q. What does Countertop Transformations™ adhere to?

A. Countertop Transformations™ is formulated to adhere to laminate countertops. With proper surface preparation, the Countertop Transformations™ coating system also adheres to hardwood and metal edges and backsplashes. All countertop materials should be sanded thoroughly with the Diamond Embedded Sanding Tool. For non-laminate surfaces, the Adhesive Base Coat should be tested for good adhesion prior to coating the entire surface.

Q. How can I assure the best possible finish for my countertop?

A. The entire system has been designed to provide a simple process to instantly transform your countertop. It is essential that each step be followed in the proper order.
• Measure the surface area of your countertop to insure you have enough kits to finish the project.
• Purchase the additional recommended application tools. The Whizz 6” long 3/8” Nap Micro Fiber Roller and 6” long High Density Foam Roller are critical supplies to ensure the best possible finish.
• Preview the enclosed instructional DVD and pamphlet.
• Prior to starting the Transformation, closely inspect your countertop to make sure there are no deep scratches, holes, or delamination. Make sure to finish all necessary repairs prior to starting the transformation process.
• Thoroughly sand the entire surface with the Diamond Embedded Sanding Tool.Apply the Adhesive Base Coat thick and even using the Whizz 3/8” Nap Roller. Quickly work in 3’ sections. This will insure the Adhesive Base Coat remains wet during the application of Decorative Chips.
• While Adhesive Base Coat is wet, apply the Decorative Chips. Use a flashlight to look for glossy areas with low Decorative Chip density and apply additional Chips as needed.
• You MUST use a lint-free, high density foam roller such as the Whizz 6” Doors and Cabinet foam roller available in the paint department. To ensure the Decorative Chips are completely protected, back-roll the entire surface in one direction over the first wet coat.
• Properly maintain the newly refinished surface.
