Over time, normal use of a spindle-back chair can strain the chair’s joints and parts causing them to loosen or break. If these problems are not addressed quickly, they can turn into bigger problems. Individual loose joints and minor splits in the wooden parts can be easily fixed. However, you may need to completely disassemble a chair and rebuild it if most of the joints on the chair are loose. And even then, you should not disassemble joints that still in good shape.
