M-D Building Products: SmartTool™ Controls

  • SmartTool Controls
  • Read in Degrees

Set saw blade angles to a fraction of a degree of accuracy with SmartTool™. Assure there is no gap when you join two cuts together with .1 degree of accuracy.

  • Percent Slope and Pitch

SmartTool's™ percent slope mode reads angles to meet requirements for sewer connections, ADA ramps, and grading. SmartTool™ also gives you roof pitch readings -- in inches of rise per foot of run. No more two-handed measurements, conversion calculations or mistakes. Also available in mm/M.

  • Hold

SmartTool’s™ hold button makes it easy to measure in areas where the digital display is not immediately visible. Take the out-of-view measurement then push the hold button to record the reading.

  • Angle Copy Mode

Directional Beeper sounds at any angle you pre-set with target angle shown on the display. Use for rafter angles, multiple machine set-up, electrical conduit bending, plumbing drain pipes, framing carpenters and other repeating angles. Includes carrying case.

  • Directional Listen and Level Audio Feature

Have tasks where you can't see the SmartTool™ display but need instant feedback? With SmartTool’s™ directional audio function an audible beep will notify you when a measurement is at level or plumb. The audio function is great for shimming projects, leveling buildings or leveling pool tables.

  • Alternate Zero Mode

This mode allows you to reset the target angle at 0 at any angle that you choose. Set your target angle as a reference. If you need to duplicate an angle multiple times, you can set the angle to your target point allowing you to duplicate it. Perfect for ADA ramps, concrete work, and automotive drive.

M-D Building Products: SmartTool™ Calibration

  • Calibration

The calibration process is simple and takes about 2 minutes.

    Key Points:

    • The surface you are using doesn’t have to be exactly level (horizontal) or plumb (vertical) but it should be as close as possible.
    • Always put the SmartTool™ in the same, exact place on the level surface for each level step or vertical surface for each plumb step.
    • The instructions work for the module (as shown in the following pages), the 24”, or the 48” level. You can refer to the “level bubble vial” instead of the “LCD display” if you are using a level.
    • Recalibrate if the tool is dropped or if temperatures exceed 20 degrees difference since the last calibration.
    • You CANNOT hurt the level electronics. If you make a mistake, just turn the level off and start over.
  • Step 1

Begin with the SmartTool™ powered on and facing you, with the LCD display up. After display stops changing, carefully press and hold the “Calibrate” button until “Cal 1” shows on the display. (See picture inset).

  • Step 2

Turn the SmartTool™ end for end so it is facing away from you, still with the LCD display up. After display stops changing, carefully press and hold the “Calibrate” button until “Cal 2” shows on the display. (See picture inset).

  • Step 3

Place the SmartTool™ upside down turn it so it is facing toward you with the LCD display down. After display stops changing, carefully press and hold the “Calibrate” button until “Cal 1” shows on the display. (See picture inset).

  • Step 4

Turn the SmartTool™ end for end so it is facing away from you, still with the LCD display down. After display stops changing, carefully press and hold the “Calibrate” button until “Cal 2” shows on the display.

  • Step 5

Place the SmartTool™ on a vertical surface. Turn the SmartTool™ so it is facing toward you, with the LCD to the bottom right. After display stops changing, carefully press and hold the “Calibrate” button until “Cal 1” shows on the display.

  • Step 6

Still on the vertical surface, turn the SmartTool™ so it is facing away from you, with the LCD to the bottom left. The end of the SmartTool™ that was at the top in Step 5 should still be at the top. After display stops changing, carefully press and hold the “Calibrate” button until “Cal 2” shows on the display.

  • Step 7

Still on the vertical surface, turn the SmartTool™ so it is facing toward you, with the LCD to the top left. The end of the SmartTool™ that was at the top in Step 6 should now be at the bottom. After display stops changing, carefully press and hold the “Calibrate” button until “Cal 1” shows on the display.

  • Step 8
