Marley Smart Series™ Wall Heater Before You Install

  • Specification 1

    • Why are voltage, wattage and amperage important?

      Voltage:
For a residential application you will have two choices, 120 volt or 240 volt. If this is a replacement heater then the new heater will need to match the voltage of the old heater.

      Wattage:
The wattage determines the amount of heat the unit will deliver into the area. In order for the unit to heat the area you will need to determine the Heat-Loss of that area. If this is a replacement for an existing heater then match the wattage of the old heater to the new heater. As a guide for well insulated space is to use 1.25 watts per CUBIC FOOT. For areas that are less insulated increase the watts per cubic foot.

      Amperage:
The amperage of the unit will determine the wire size needed for the heater. The amperage of multiple heaters must be added if they are on the same circuit. If this is a replacement for an existing heater then match old amperage with the new heater.

Marley Smart Series™ Wall Heater Installation

  • Tools

Warning: Please read through all installation instructions in product manual before installing your heater. For more thorough instructions please visit the manufactures website or reference the product installation manual.

To install your new Marley Smart Series Wall Heater you will need the following tools:

    • Safety Glasses
    • Power Drill
    • Screw Driver
    • Pliers
    • Pencil
    • Ruler
    • Level
    • Jig Saw
    • Hammer

  • Cut hole for back box

Locate an area where you would like your heater installed. Once a location for the heater is found mark the vertical wall studs. Prep Wall and be careful to measure and mark the rough opening for the heater back box by using a ruler and level. Be sure to follow the Installation Manual section for Installation of Back Box in finished wall. Cut hole for back box and start by using a drill for a starter hole and a jigsaw to cut the rough opening. Remember always wear safety glasses. Be careful not to cut any existing wiring and do not install under a wall receptacle.

  • Remove heater assembly and place back box into wall opening

Remove the heater assembly for the back box by removing 8 screws. Next remove the upper right or left side knockout for the power supply and install an appropriate strain relief or conduit connector. Run power supply cable through the strain relief leaving about 6 inches of wire leads inside the back box.

  • Run power supply to unit and secure back box

Secure back box using two wood screws on the side against the stud and one long wood screw through lower mounting hole the other side of back box. Be careful not to drive the wood screw more than 3/8” into the stud. Secure by tightening screws on the strain relief connector.

  • Attach heater assembly to back box

Guide the heat deck flange through the back box slot openings. Be careful not to lodge the ribbon connector behind the circuit board. Attach the heater assembly to the back box with 4 screws.

  • Wire unit following product manual instructions

For wiring 120 Volt heaters as shown connect the white neutral supply lead to the heaters white pigtail lead. Connect the black supply lead to the heaters black pigtail lead. Connect the supply cable ground wire to the ground pigtail lead provided. Position the junction box cover over the back box. Before mounting, carefully feed the ribbon connector through the elongated slot. Then align the four mounting holes to the back box and attach cover using the 4 remaining screws.

  • Connect electrical ribbon to display

While holding the right side of grille in your right hand, extend the ribbon connector with the free hand and fit the black connector into the black slot on the back of the grille.

  • Position grille and secure to back box

Once connected, position the grille over the heater back box assembly aligning top of grille with the back box top flange. Lower top of grille so the grille flanges catch the back box top flange and hold it in place firmly. Secure the grille by inserting 2 screws in the holes located in the bottom bezel that align with the holes in the heater assembly. Place the bottom bezel in position over the grille and snap tabs into the corresponding holes making sure it is seated securely.
